My Journey To Becoming A writer

Updated: Apr 4, 2023

At the end of 2020, during the covid-19 lockdown, I decided I wanted to become a writer. At the time, I had been writing non-committedly since I was a teenager and, despite my struggles with dyslexia, had developed a passion for reading and writing Romance novels.

To begin with, I wrote every day like clockwork. Getting up at 9 am before work, and sometimes I would write until three or four in the morning. Most of the time, the words flowed out of me, and I often struggled to detach myself from my book long enough to remember to sleep, eat and communicate with the people in my life.

But finally, with a lot of persistence, I published my first book 'Surviving Scarlett' In January 2021. A young adult erotic romance novel that incorporates real-world issues for young people in today's world. Including sexual abuse, bullying, and depression.

I had no outline for Surviving Scarlett. I wrote both on my phone and the computer, gaining inspiration from my own experiences, things I had watched or read, and people in my day-to-day life.

The editing process was rushed and far more difficult for me. I couldn't pick up mistakes that the average person would have noticed, and without the help of a professional paid editor, a lot of errors made it into the finished copy.

What I learned from this experience is that writing is a learning curve; the only way to learn is to start. Not everything you do will be a masterpiece, but it's very important that you do it anyway. You will get rejected, and you will receive bad reviews, but that's life. Nothing worth having is ever easy, but with the right mentality, anything can become possible. .
